Nigel Hamilton, PhD

Nigel Hamilton is a British-born biographer and historian, now a naturalized American citizen, who received the Whitbread Prize for Biography and the Templer Medal for Military History. Hamilton was elected president of BIO (Biographers International Organization) and hosted its conferences at University of Massachusetts Boston in 2010 and 2014.

His latest work is the second of his three-volume study of Franklin Delano Roosevelt as US commander in chief in World War II, Commander in Chief: FDR’s Battle with Churchill, 1943, which follows his 2014 book The Mantle of Command: FDR at War, 1941–1942. His previous works include: American Caesars: Lives of the Presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt to George W. Bush, a group biography of the last 12 US presidents; JFK: Reckless Youth, which was made into a four-hour ABC miniseries; and his official life trilogy on British Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, Monty: Final Years of the Field-Marshal, 1944–1976.
